Travel Tuesday: W Hotel New Orleans French Quarter

As you all may know, I’m a travel fanatic! I love inspiration, seeing different things, the whole 9!! Being in Baton Rouge too long can make me cluttered in some sort of way. I traveled to New Orleans for an engagement shoot and a styled shoot. I stayed at the trendy renovated W Hotel French Quarter It’s right in the heart of the French Quarter. The Starwood Hotel brand is my all-time favorite hotel properties. They have the trendy, modern, hip style! I’ve always stayed at the one on Poydras St. in the central business district simply because I never wanted to get lost in New Orleans. I still don’t the one way streets in New Orleans like I should but oh well. I will learn one day. I was WOWED! the rooms are incredible, the bedding was comfortable, the layout of the infrastructure is magnificient. I love everything about the property. I will be coming to stay here again! After a long day of shooting, I went right around the corner of Decatur St., to find Bubba Gump & Shrimp which is my favorite restaurant! I’ve been to the one in NYC but it’s nothing like a good New Orleans restaurant!  I got the Shrimp Po-Boy with fries…yummy!

Old State Capitol Baton Rouge Bridal Shoot: Damona

It was such gloomy day for Damona’s bridal shoot in Baton Rouge at the Old State Capitol. Not too cold, not too hot so we won’t melt! lol. She was fun & easy to work with! Her friend/maid of honor Jennifer was also a big help! Damona’s personality really showed for the shoot. Congrats to both Kenn + Damona for tieing the knot this past Saturday at the Gatehouse!!

New Orleans Engagement: Samira + Greg

I finally came back to New Orleans!! What a beautiful day it was to shoot an engagement in the lovely French Quarter/Marigny neigborhood. I had a great time working with Samira and Greg. Started off at the renovated W Hotel French Quarter. They laughed, made fun of each other which made this shoot rock! They met at a retail store where Greg use to work. From then on, they started dating and got engaged March 2013. When tourists come to New Orleans, they think about the good food, special events, etc. But as we were on our way to the Marigny neighborhood, I asked questions on the history of New Orleans, Greg’s last name “Marigny” which is the name of the neighborhood “Faubourg Marigny“. Faubourg Marigny was laid out in the first decade of the 19th century by eccentric Creole millionaire developer Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville on land that had been his family plantation just down river from the old city limits of New Orleans. I was so amazed and intrigued that history dates backs hundreds and hundreds of years. New Orleans is so historic which I think is iconic to the city’s popularity. They will be tieing the knot in the summer of June!

Mike Buck of Mike Buck Photography

A nutrition major at LSU and a freelance photographer, Mike Buck is quickly becoming the “go to” guy in the Baton Rouge area! It’s not too many people you meet that is easy going, down to earth..well that’s Mike! I met Mike about 8 months ago while I was trying to sell some camera gear online. We shared our interest in photography and other things, we’ve been friends since then. We worked together on a wedding just last May (see blog post here) and I definitely will call him first if I need a second shooter! Last week, I gotta hold of Mike of talking him into doing some portraits for his brand. We met up at LSU and just started shooting of whatever we could think of that best fits his personality & style. If you live in Baton Rouge, you’re likely familiar with his work for Red Stick Crossfit and Dig Baton Rouge which made the May issue which I think is outstanding! Visit his facebook page here to see more of his work: Mike Buck Photography

LSU Baton Rouge Engagement: Rasheedah + Mike

Seems like this is the year where all of my high school classmates are getting married!! Good thing that everyone is on facebook to keep up with them. Rasheedah and Mike met at a mutual friend’s studio. He was into Christian music and they crossed paths everytime Rasheedah went there. It was always just a “Hey” and “Bye”. But one day Rasheedah opened the door for Mike and immediatly a connection was there!:) They had their first official date at Don Carter’s and Zea’s, which is one of my favorite restaurants. Me and Rasheedah went to the same high school together (GOHS c/o of 05). I met Mike at a wedding I shot for classmates that me and her went to high school with. They were so much fun to work with! They made each other laugh through out the session and I think that captivated the joy and emotion of these two. They are tieing the knot July 6, 2013!

Marcia - Perkins Rowe: Baton Rouge Portrait Photography

Sometimes when I’m not doing weddings, I like to just contact people I know and go out for a fun shoot. I got a chance to work with Marcia! We’ve know each other for about 8-9 years so to speak. We crossed paths when we were freshmans in college. She was so fun to work with, down to earth! She is the owner of Pretty Girl With Curls, you can check out her instagram: @PrettyGirlsWithCurls and YouTube: pretty girls with curls.  We shot in Perkins Rowe on a beautiful Sunday. It’s a like-new, popular property in Baton Rouge with different shops, restaurants, etc. Her clothing blended in with the colors around the property so I took full advantage of what I was looking for. It’s almost like you’re looking at a catalog, searching for the best clothes for a special occassion…I don’t know, maybe it’s just me lol!

Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler: Baton Rouge Wedding At The Old Governor's Mansion: Brannon + Erica - Baton Rouge Wedding Photography

There comes a time where you meet certain people and people just fill your heart with love and joy. That’s what happened when I met Brannon & Erica! They both met in the late hours of MD Anderson Cancer Center. He was a first year resident and she was a brand new nurse. A year passed and they cross paths again, caring for a mutual patient. This time they exchange numbers. Last June, Brannon proposed to Erica with a diamond and four dozen roses. The number 4 is important to them because their birthdays are on the 4th day of their birth month. How romantic :)

They found me the week of their wedding because of the photographer they already had was unable to serve them due to personal family matters. Two days prior to the wedding, I met with them and the coordinator to kind of go over things and alternatives if it was to rain. The following friday, I suprised Brannon & Erica by showing up at their ceremony rehearsal. I wanted to meet the wedding party and at the same time; this is how I build those ever-lasting relationships! Showing up where I’m not expected to show up :) What’s so crazy is that I’ve known her brother Eric for over 4 years and I was suprised to see him there at the ceremony rehearsal and he told me “yea, Erica is my sister”.  it had rained horribly and it showed an 80% chance of rain on the day of the wedding. So the wedding day is here and I look for the weather, it’s still saying 80% chance of rain & thunderstorms. I was kind of bummed but at the same time had faith that it would hold up, everything was still going to beautiful no matter what. As Erica said to me,”Tyrell, I prayed and fasted for the weather to hold up”.  It didn’t rain one bit! The sun shined like it never before! :) I want to thank Mike Buck of Mike Buck Photography for assisting me!

Lafayette Wedding At St. Edmond Catholic Church & CajunDome Convention Center: Bryant + Tamara

From the first time I met Bryant and Tamara for their engagement session, I knew that I would have a lot of fun being apart of their big day! Bryant and Tamara met right after they both graduated from Southern University A&M one night through mutual friends while they were out at Tigerland on LSU’s campus. It was history from there on. As they were counting down the days on Instagram and Facebook, I was too! Lol!  The weather perfect, not too sunny, not too humid. A lot of the guests were people I knew from mutual friends from when I use to photograph college events so I had a chance to talk with some of them and capture those special moments at the same time.

Sharis: Senior | LSU Campus | Tigerland

I had a little bit of downtime this month during wedding season and started to do some senior shoots! Standing at 5‘2”, Sharis is a definite example of LSU triumph. I felt that I already knew her just from talking and meeting her for the first time. I think that’s what made this senior session POP lol! We had so much fun around LSU campus. We discussed about shooting in different locations in the Baton Rouge area but I figured that since she’s graduating from LSU, what better place to do a 2 hour session right from the school she’s graduating from in May! Little did I know that I knew her sister all along, what a SMALL world!! She is earning a bachelor’s degree in Biological Engineering. Don’t forget to check out her + site sharissteib.tyrellbanksphotography.com
